When you think of special days in February, we are sure that Valentine’s Day is the first day that comes to mind, followed by President’s Day. There is another day that you can be celebrating, especially if you have young children in your life — National Tooth Fairy Day! National Tooth Fairy Day actually takes place biannually on February 28th and August 22nd. This day is a way to celebrate a young child losing their first baby teeth and the cute little fairy who comes and collects all of the lost teeth. It is also a great reminder to schedule a routine examination for the young child in your life as well as for every member of your family.
It can be very emotional to have a tooth extracted or deal with a missing tooth or teeth. After dealing with those emotions, we at Friendly Family Dentistry don’t want choosing a tooth replacement option to be a difficult decision for you. We work with our patients to help them make a decision on an option that is most beneficial to their lifestyle. That being said, our first recommendation and most popular choice among patients are dental implants.
Despite improvements in dental care, millions of Americans still incur tooth loss, mostly due to tooth decay, periodontal disease, or injury. For many years, the only solutions to these problems were the use of crowns, bridges, and dentures. Thankfully, today we also have dental implants. A dental implant is a high-tech replacement tooth that mimics the whole tooth structure. A titanium post is surgically inserted into the jawbone beneath the gum line and then a crown, or the replacement tooth, is affixed to the implant.
